Mahaphon Clang

Mahaphon Clang is the name of the first joint venture between Lautstark!4 and Ramesh Shotham. Maha is Sanskrit and means, great. Phon is the physical unit for the perceived level of loudness and clang is just clang.

Lautstark!4 (>Vociferous!4<) is a young ensemble, whose members live in different parts of Germany, but are all somehow connected to Cologne. Ramesh Shotham is originally from Madras, currently known as Chennai, and has been living in Cologne for more than twenty years.

Mahaphon Clang is an invitation to take a voyage through intuitive music worlds. The 5 gents "unbashfully join noisy rock riffs and velvety pop melodics with today's improvised music," (Martin Laurentius, JazzThing).

In doing so, they merge again and again into orchestral sound scapes, out of which driving groves erupt unexpectedly just to be dissected into their individual molecules again. A trip that bridges generations and is full of surprises.
